QUINOA

Quinoa – pigweed rice

Description: Quinoa, i.e. pigweed rice, is being grown for nearly 5,000 years. The first references lead to the Inca Empire in South America. On the mountainous areas it was a replacement for corn which on difficult terrain did not want to grow. After the conquest by the Spaniards, the importance of quinoa dropped in favor of wheat and barley. Nowadays, it has been re-discovered. Thanks to its properties, it enjoys popularity again and is the main crop in areas situated higher than most. Recently is also being cultivated in North America and Europe.

Usage: 1 cup of the Quinoa pour to boiling water (approx. 500mls) and stir on low heat for 15 minutes. After that time, set it aside for another 15 minutes. After this time the Quinoa is ready for consumption.
